Red Jasper is found in shades from brick and terracotta to a deeper rusty red and has long been associated with protection and courage. In the Viking sagas it was said to be inlaid into Siegfried's magical dragon-slaying sword. In Ancient Egyptian culture it was considered to be the fertilising blood of the Mother Isis and, similarly, in some Native American cultures the blood of Mother Earth.
