Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for February and one of the world's best known and most beloved gemstones. Is has been used through the ages for a myriad of purposes, particularly as a stone of protection and purification, and also to have a grounding, calming, sobering effect. It is popular today for enhancing meditative states and is associated with the Crown Chakra.
